I am addicted to Facebook. There is rarely a day that goes by that I am not checking out my friends and family’s status updates from home and school. In the past few years, Facebook has evolved to include companies having a facebook presence on my news feed. I have found it convienent to keep up with the daily news if it is in a place that I already check by habit. I have found that liking news stations keeps me up-to-date pretty well. I have a local ones from home and school as well as the New York Times and USA Today. The types of news that the companies release is targeted towards a social media crowd and so usually there is a short blurb and an accompanying picture with a link to the article on their website. The stations often encourage viewers to like or comment to generate feedback and gage the public’s opinion. I like getting my new this way because when I click to the link on the websites, other articles are advertised that perk my interest and this is a medium that doesn’t seem like a chore. Rather, it is during time that I have to waste on browsing my Facebook feed.
I also get my news from iPhone apps such as the Denver Post, the New York Times subscription, NPR, and the BBC news app. I use each for a different reason but I love how they are all set up for minimal finger strokes to reach key news stories. They are also easy to browse when I am bored because they are always with me on my phone. In contrast to the Facebook feed, I can also search for stories by category or newspaper section if I wish. As a college student, these are the most cost and time efficient ways to get the news.
